1001 Journals

A couple weeks ago my friend Camille started a project on 1001 Journals. The idea is that someone buys a blank journal and fills it with sketches, paintings, collages, thoughts, lyrics, etc. Then other people sign up for the journal and it gets mailed to them, so they can fill it with entries too. So potentially one journal could go all around the world!

I signed up for the one Camille started and got it a week ago. I got to see all Camille's entries, and am currently filling the pages with my work. When I'm done, I have to send it alllll the way to Denton Texas! Then it's going to California, D.C., Massachusetts, Florida, Wisconsin, and wherever else an interested person signs up for it.

I'm not exactly comfortable with showing my entries on this blog as they're rather personal (it's actually really easy to pour your heart out to people you'll never know), but here are some of the types of entries you might see...

I love seeing other peoples’ art so unfiltered. It inspires me to set aside the time to be creative, which is saying a lot considering how busy I’ve been lately! So I highly recommend that you all sign up for a journal or two, it’s really fun and stress relieving and all that good stuff. Ya might learn something too, either from seeing what entries you come up with or from reading someone else’s.

slightly late resolutions post!

Or I should say non-resolution post. I don't really like the idea of new year's resolutions, because if you pick anything too specific, it often sets you up for failure. Plus, you always end up accomplishing a lot throughout the year that you couldn't have predicted earlier, so it doesn't matter if you don't complete the resolutions you made in January. I guess if I had to pick a goal for 2010 it would just be to be happy!

And I've decided to restart my project 365. I randomly started my first around May of 2009 and really enjoyed it for a while. But then my life got a lot busier and more hectic, so I had a hard time taking pictures that really showed what I was capable of, photography-wise. And often times I wouldn't have time to upload my pictures until weeks after I'd taken them, which lead to me being overly stressed about which picture I took on which day and how a lot of them actually sucked. In other words, it stopped being fun for me. So I quit.
But I'm starting fresh in 2010, with a goal of uploading a picture to the computer every day to make sure I know which day I took it. And I'm going to make a flickr album that will hopefully motivate me to keep uploading. I'd be very happy to hear if anyone else is starting their own 365 Project!

Oh and while I'm at it, I suppose I'll share a couple of my favorite pictures from the uncompleted project.

Hope you're all having fantastic 2010s so far. If any of you have made resolutions, what are they?

The one with Odysseus and stuff

So in my English class, we're reading the Odyssey (which I actually don't hate!) and were assigned to make a visual representation of one of the books. My friends and I chose to make a movie out of Book 22, Slaughter in the Hall. We actually planned for it to turn out really professionally, but we didn't take into account how hard it is to memorize a script and play thirty characters with five actors. And film everything within four hours. And not leave out any really important scenes. And not die from laughter in the middle of filming.

Now that I've set your expectations so high, enjoy! Oh and just something to keep in mind to help keep characters straight: Most of the time, the suitors have black beards/staches and Odysseus's side has brown. Except for Odysseus, who always has black. Yeah.

Hahaha I swear I don't sound like that normally. I am such a horrible actress! But at least we did a good job on those outtakes!

rainy rainy rain

Hi all. Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I've been trying to get all my projects and stuff together before my break starts on Thursday! Which reminds me. I need to start my government project, oops.

On another note, I've decided I'm addicted to cupcakes. Not to eating them so much, more like decorating and giving them to other people. So I started a new blog about it! Click here to head to Operation Icing.

Okay, this is a shit post.... here, here is some music! Everyone likes music! This one is The Plot by White Rabbits. It feels like energy.

Yay. Happy Tuesday?

buttercream.

Helloooo loves. Sorry for the kind of angry post the other day. I've been feeling much better these past few days because of one thing: cupcakes! On wednesday night my mom gave me a newspaper article about a few cupcake shops that are opening near where I live. It had a few quotes from people that said that they liked the idea of cupcake shops so much because you could just go in, spend a couple dollars on a pretty cupcake, and BAM portable ray of sunshine in your otherwise dreary day. So then I got to daydreaming about what it would be like to own my own shop, and realized that it's really what I want to do- I want to make people happy. I love doing little things to brighten everyones' day, I love smiles. What better way to provide those than through beautiful cupcakes?

I realize that I'm only 15 and there are a million opportunities for me to change what I want to do with my life. But at least I've realized that, even if my fairytale cupcake shop dream doesn't come true, I want to have a job where I'm my own boss and make people happy at the same time. I feel confident in my future even though I don't know exactly what's going to happen.

I pretty much spent all day talking to my friends Sara and Angela about this.. planning flavors, drawing sketches of my shop. Today when I got home from school, I made these cuties:
Basic vanilla mini cupcakes with nutella buttercream (oh hey Debs) and orange peel hearts. My family loved them.

And I have a secret cupcake masterplan in the works that will probably be revealed to you in a few days. AH so excited! Happy weekend!

sanctuary

As promised, I made my fort last night! I basically rounded up random stuff, some with sentimental value and some without, and hung it in between two sheets over my bed. It took forever but I think it was so worth it.

I guess technically, this is more of a tent than a fort. But it serves the same purpose. I stayed up late last night, listening to Eisley and Beirut, and reading The Secret Life of Houdini, and just thinking. I was tired, but didn't want to fall asleep because I didn't want to lose that feeling of being safe in my little hideaway. My corner of the universe. I spent my whole morning there too. My parents don't understand why, but I think I'll leave it up for a while longer. I like thinking that everything I need to escape from the world for a little while can fit between two sheets and a wall.
